Thijs Dekker

Impact Translation Fellow

Thijs is an economist based in the Institute for Transport Studies (ITS) at the University of Leeds. He has 8 years’ professional experience in developing survey methods and data analysis techniques to put a monetary value on things such as travel-time savings, crowding reductions in public transport, but also environmental improvements of all sorts. For example, in his PhD (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, 2012) he valued reductions in exposure to flood risks in the Netherlands.

Within i-CASP, Thijs is working on the GBI Business Cases project where he is responsible, amongst other things, for writing a review of tools valuing Green and Blue Infrastructure. Developing a better understanding of how GBI elements can be included in economic business cases is essential to justifying and prioritising the necessary investments. As a keen cyclist, Thijs believes that providing safe and green infrastructure is essential to improving quality of life!
