iCASP is part of a consortium who have been appointed by the Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA) to develop UK guidance on Natural Flood Management (NFM) measures.
The consortium is being led by Mott Macdonald and includes the River Restoration Centre and our partner the Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust.
The project seeks to support the delivery of natural flood management (NFM) solutions by producing accessible and helpful industry guidance on the delivery of NFM interventions.
The guidance, due to be released in 2021, will improve confidence in using NFM measures and reduce poor performance by drawing upon evidence and practical examples. iCASP will use experience gained from the NFM Community of Practice group and our work with the DEFRA NFM Community Demonstration fund projects to contribute to what will become the industry standard for NFM. By engaging with a broad range of organisations, the guidance will include the latest and best available evidence about planning, design, construction and maintenance of NFM to provide both a generic design framework for NFM and detailed guidance on several NFM measures.
CIRIA, a neutral, independent and not-for-profit body, aims to improve performance and drive collaboration across the built environment and construction sectors for the identification, development and transfer of knowledge. CIRIA publishes many guidance documents which are adopted as the standard for excellence in their respective areas; this project provides an excellent way to maximise and increase the reach of iCASP’s impact in the area of natural flood management. This is not an iCASP-funded project; iCASP are part of a consortium who have been appointed by CIRIA to produce guidance
