Folasayo (‘Sayo) Ogundipe is a Project Research Officer at the University of Leeds, supporting iCASP programmes and the EU-funded WaterLANDS project. His work sits at the intersection of data science, environmental resilience, flood risk management and digital innovation.
Within iCASP, Sayo contributes to the West Yorkshire Flood Innovation Programme (WYFLIP) and is involved in the development of a digital smart early warning system for surface-water flooding in West Yorkshire. His technical work includes integrating LoRaWAN sensor data, APIs and IoT platforms such as TagoIO, developing real-time monitoring dashboards, and supporting approaches for translating sensor data into useful information for flood-risk decision-making.
Before joining iCASP, Sayo worked as a Data Scientist at the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics (LIDA). His work included analysing more than 800,000 linked health and education records through Connected Bradford and contributing to public-health analytics work involving the World Health Organisation. He has experience in machine learning, geospatial analytics, data pipelines, dashboard development and communicating complex analytical findings to diverse stakeholders.
Sayo has an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (Distinction) alongside postgraduate training in Virology and Business Administration and a BSc in Microbiology. His multidisciplinary background enables him to apply data science and digital technologies across environmental, public-health and resilience challenges.
His broader interests centre on the use of AI, IoT, geospatial analytics and real-time monitoring systems to develop practical early-warning and decision-support solutions for environmental and societal challenges.
